Fellowship Project: Establishing Mental Health Needs in HIV-Positive Adolescents in Tanzania

Dr. Dow is a pediatric infectious diseases fellow at Duke University with a Master of Science in Global Health who is conducting research related to pediatric HIV with special focus on adolescents and the impact of mental health on HIV outcomes. She has worked at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) since 2011 and enjoys living in Moshi, Tanzania. Over the course of her fellowship she has built collegial relationships with the clinical and research staff as well as the HIV-positive adolescents who attend the KCMC youth clinic. Dr. Dow is delighted to participate in the Fogarty Global Health Fellowship and looks forward to this research opportunity to better understanding the mental health difficulties that these youth experience with the goal of creating an effective cognitive behavioral intervention that will benefit both their mental and physical health.
