Dr. Harrell Shreckengost will spend her fellowship year at the Universidad Católica Bolivi-ana-San Pablo in Santa Cruz de la Sierra under the mentorship of Carolina Henestrosa, MD, Esteban Foianini, MD and German Toledo Hviid, MD. Her research will focus on implementation of both immunohistochemistry and a novel low-cost smartphone-based alternative to whole slide imaging at the Instituto Oncológico del Oriente Boliviano to enhance capacity in breast cancer diagnostics. After the implementation stage, Dr. Harrell Shreckengost will assess characteristics associated with different breast cancer receptor expression profiles among Bolivian women.
Dr. Harrell Shreckengost is a general surgery resident and global surgery research fellow under the mentorship of Steven Roser, DMD, MD, at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After her fellowship year in Bolivia, she plans to complete her surgical residency and subsequently pursue a fellowship in academic global surgical oncology. As a surgeon-scientist in training, her interests center on surgical efforts to combat global cancer disparities, enhance capacity, and support bio-innovation in resource-limited settings.
