Our goal is to ultimately improve the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer for all populations. We are a multidisciplinary team of biostatisticians, nurses, thoracic surgeons and epidemiologists that perform cutting edge research in epidemiologic and clinical studies of lung cancer. We collaborate with leading investigators with expertise in genetics, epidemiology, medicine, surgery, pulmonology, bioinformatics, and health services research to improve the prevention and clinical care of lung cancer.

Congratulations to Adoma Manful! She has received an American Thoracic Society (ATS) scholarship for the quality of her science and will receive complimentary registration for the upcoming ATS meeting where she will be honored during the Diversity Forum.

Congratulations to Jennifer Richmond, PhD!! She was awarded an NCI K99 grant “Developing a Trustworthy Multilevel Intervention to Improve Equity in Lung Cancer Screening” and has also been selected to participate in the American Society of Preventive Oncology’s (ASPO) 2023 New Investigator Workshop at ASPO’s annual meeting.

Congratulations to TREAT team members Anika Park and Timothy Hwang! Their poster presentation entitled, “Racism, Discrimination, Medical Mistrust, Stigma, and Lung Cancer Screening: A Scoping Review“ received 1st Place at the Inaugural Clifton K. Meador, MD Health Equity Virtual Poster Session. They were mentored by fellow TREAT team member Jennifer Richmond, PhD.

Adoma Manful, MPH, has been selected to receive a Scholar-in-Training Award from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) for the upcoming AACR Conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved. Congratulations, Adoma!
Nashville Lung Cancer Screening Trial
Read "Saved by the Scan", the story of a participant in the Nashville Lung Cancer Screening Trial who credits the low-dose CT scan she received as part of the trial and subsequent physician care with saving her life.
Vanderbilt Lung Cancer Screening Program
Read "A decade after lung cancer, aspiring minister aims for a ‘significant life’". An illness and CT-scan led to a diagnosis of lung cancer for Mr. Taylor Stokes. TREAT member Eric Grogan, MD, MPH, performed the surgery to remove the tumor from Mr. Stokes’ lung and now Mr. Stokes has annual follow-up scans through Vanderbilt’s Lung Cancer Screening Program.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Lung Cancer Screening Program for patients at high risk for cancer recently reached a milestone, enrolling more than 700 patients and performing more than 1,000 CT screening examinations.
