The Vanderbilt Joint Replacement Division is active in clinical research and in the development of new prosthetic devices. Dr. Shinar has participated in an Investigational Device trial involving a novel mobile bearing knee replacement over the last 8 years. We have presented multiple recent papers at national and regional meetings on minimally invasive hip surgery, reduction of complications after hip surgery, early rehabilitation after hip replacement, and the best methods for treating infected hip and knee replacements. Presently, studies are being designed to explore new devices used in performing hip resurfacing and preventing complications of this procedure, and also examining results of hip replacement following acetabular fractures.
