Dr. Eli Zimmerman, Associate Professor of Neurology, has several clinical and educational roles. Clinically, he sees vascular neurology patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as via teleneurology. He also serves as the Department of Neurology’s Director of Medical Student Education, directs the Vascular Neurology fellowship, and teaches over 200 medical students each year in his leadership courses in the medical school. He has won multiple teaching awards at Vanderbilt, including the Shovel Award in 2019, awarded by the graduating medical school class to the faculty member who had the most meaningful impact on their medical education.

Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Zimmerman graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 2010, then completed neurology residency and stroke fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He returned to Vanderbilt in July 2015 to join the neurology faculty. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his husband, cuddling with his cavapoos, Louis and Honey, baking, eating, rock climbing, and spending time with friends and family.
