Abbie Burka is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of Interprofessional Education for Lipscomb University, where she coordinates opportunities for students in the health science programs to collaborate and learn together. Her driving passion is to break down barriers for students and practitioners to effectively work together to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Burka is active in the interprofessional education community including the Vanderbilt Program for Interprofessional Learning, the Nashville Interprofessional Consortium, and the Tennessee Interprofessional Practice and Education Consortium, where she is on the Board of Directors. She also co-chairs the Tennessee Collaborative Practice Society which serves to recognize outstanding student achievement in interprofessional practice and collaborative care. She has previously practiced as a clinical pharmacy specialist in the surgical intensive care unit at the Veterans Affairs Tennessee Valley Healthcare System and maintains board certifications in pharmacotherapy and critical care. Abbie and her husband Scott met over a game of scrabble during pharmacy school and stay busy with their two young sons.
