MVA Executive Director contributes to Lancet blog on cardiovascular health in women

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Despite a decline in cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality over the past decades, cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among men and women in the USA. Sex-specific differences in CVD prevention, diagnosis, and treatment persist, and CVD in women is under-researched, misdiagnosed, and inadequately treated.

In a point of view article published in The Lancet United States of Health Blog, Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance (MVA) Executive Director Consuelo H. Wilkins, MD, MSC, working in tandem with the Women's Heart Alliance and five other authors, highlighted inequities that exist among women in underrepresented populations. She also spoke at length on the United State of Health Podcast with Rebecca Cooney, North American Executive Editor of the Lancet, and Women's Heart Alliance CEO British Robinson about improving heart health in women, caregivers and minority and vulnerable populations.

The article, "A whole-system approach to improving cardiovascular health in women," was published February 26, 2018.
