National Women's Health Week Schedule of Events announced

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The schedule of events for National Women's Health week has been announced. A complete listing of the week's events is below:

 

  • Monday, May 15, 2017: National Women’s “Know Your Numbers” Day - 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
    Has it been more than a year since you’ve seen a doctor? Visiting the doctor regularly to receive routine care and important screening tests is one step you can take to live a healthier life. Come and take advantage of the free screening services provided by Nashville General Hospital for blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and glucose. For glucose testing, fast and come early. We hope to meet you in the lower level of the hospital.
     
  • Tuesday, May 16, 2017: 3 Sixth Annual “Taking Steps to Better Health” Walk, 3:45 - 4:15 pm
    We will meet at the Center for Women’s Health Research and walk around campus, or you are free to start the walk where you are. We will circle the campus moving from Albion, to DB Todd, to Meharry Blvd., to 21st Ave North, circle as many times as you can. The walk will conclude at Human Resources, where you can stop for water and treats.
     
  • Wednesday, May 17, 2017: Northwest YMCA Lunch -n- Learn, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

    Join Dr. Katherine Y. Brown, a health educator, author, entrepreneur and humanitarian who works to positively impact the state of health and wellness nationally and internationally. Dr. Brown’s specialties are pulmonary hypertension (blood pressure that affects the lungs and the heart) and interactive CPR training. The event will be held at the Northwest YMCA, 3700 Ashland City Highway, Nashville, 37218, John Wright Room. 
     

  • Thursday, May 18, 2017: Domestic Violence Awareness (Wear PURPLE!), 4:00 - 5:00 pm 
    We will explore the intersection of faith and domestic/sexual violence. This workshop co-sponsored by the Chaplain’s Office will provide information on the signs of domestic violence, along with legal options related to domestic and sexual violence. The event will be held at the Easley Community Center, 1101 Edgehill Ave., Nashville, TN 37203. 

    The conversation will continue 5:30 - 8:00 pm with “Movie Night” at the Compton Nelson Auditorium on Meharry’s campus. Come for a free viewing of The Perfect Guy, followed by a question and answer session. Free snacks and beverages will be provided. Free parking in F Lot. 

    Finally, you can help by providing comfort items for women and children who suffer at the hands of domestic violence. We will collect items from May 5 through May 17 at the Chapel, Dental School, West Basic Science and Cal Turner Building. 
     

  • Friday, May 19, 2017: Mammogram Plus a 1-Hour Physical Wellness Experience, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
    We’ll end the week with a bang! All day free mammograms, PLUS – One Hour 11:30 am - 12:30 pm Women’s Choice – Supervised Yoga and Cardio, guided meditations, massages. You choose 15 minutes, or more!!

Founded in 1999, the Alliance bridges the institutions of Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
