MVA paper discussing Community Engagement Studios published by Academic Medicine

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Academic Medicine, a journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges, recently published a paper authored by Yvonne Joosten, MPH, Consuelo H. Wilkins, MD, MSCI, and others outlining the approach of Community Engagement Studios (CE Studios).

"Community Engagement Studios: A Structured Approach to Obtaining Meaningful Input From Stakeholders to Inform Research" discusses community engagement approaches tested by the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community-Engaged Research Core in 2009 which led to the development of the CE Studio. The structured program facilitates project-specific input from community and patient stakeholders to enhance research design, implementation and dissemination. Developers used a team approach to recruit and train stakeholders, prepare researchers to engage with stakeholders and facilitate an in-person meeting with both.
