Two Postdoctoral Positions Available at the Lund University Diabetes Centre: Using iPS cells to analyze genetic variants controlling beta-cell function in health and disease.
Specific aim for fellows: Understand how gene variants cause beta-cell dysfunction in Type 2 Diabetes.
The fellows will employ cultured clonal rodent and human b-cells as well as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) to examine the impact of genetic variation with functional read- outs. The fellow will use RNA interference (RNAi) and genome editing tools (CRISPR/Cas9), all established techniques in the laboratory, to manipulate genes of interest. The consequences of these manipulations for insulin secretion as well as for beta-cell function and metabolism will be analyzed by an array of biochemical assays. We also have access to novel imaging tools to monitor cellular second messenger systems and metabolism.
Specific requirements of candidates: A PhD in a relevant area, e.g., diabetes/metabolic diseases, cellular imaging and cell culture methods, less than 2 years ago is required. Experience of stem cell biology and/or genome editing will be of particular importance. The candidates should be highly motivated and prepared to drive their own research, including mentoring of junior colleagues. The scientific track record (e.g., published work in international scientific journals and participation in international scientific meetings) will be of great merit.
Post-Doctoral Position Available in Mauvais-Jarvis Lab at Tulane University.
Our group is seeking a candidate for a post-doctoral position in a groundbreaking area of diabetes research. The Diabetes Discovery Research and Gender Medicine Laboratory focuses on identifying the molecular mechanisms underlying sex differences in diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. The candidate will use genetic, molecular and physiological tools; study mice with conditional knockouts of steroid hormones receptors, transgenics that interrogate the role of sex chromosomes as well as human cell culture models in highly controlled environments.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. or M.D., be self-motivated, show interest in diabetes research and will have significant experience in cell culture, standard biochemical and molecular biology techniques and immunohistochemistry. Experience in islet biology or in vivo metabolism is preferable. Salary will be determined based on previous experience.
