Laura Powell joined the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (IGP) at Vanderbilt in 2014 and the Crowe Lab in 2015. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware, where she majored in molecular biology and minored in piano performance. Her research there focused on a two-component regulatory system in Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Currently, she studies the human antibody response to arthritogenic alphaviruses. Specifically, she is working on generating and characterizing antibodies against Ross River, Mayaro, and O’nyong’nyong viruses, with the goal of advancing therapeutics and aiding in vaccine design.
