Postdoctoral Fellow

Center for Asthma Research

The Center for Asthma Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow Researcher. We are seeking a candidate with desire and interest in pursuing a career in pharmacoepidemiologic research, early life environmental risk factors identification and disease primary prevention. The individual should ideally have experience in broad aspects of human studies, data management, and statistical analysis. Experience in either asthma or pediatric studies would be helpful, although it is not essential. The ideal candidate will a) independently and collaboratively conduct research projects within a dynamic, extramurally-funded and productive epidemiologic and clinical research program focused on asthma prevention within the supportive infrastructure of the Center for Asthma Research, b) write and develop manuscripts and grant proposals, and c) aide in data management and analysis.

Required qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge in the coordination of human studies and/or observational epidemiologic investigations is essential.
  • Successful candidates should have a PhD, or expect to gain a PhD (or equivalent degree) prior to start date at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
  • Research experience, strong analytic skills, data management and programming experience
  • Some grant writing and development experience
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background and interest in human or epidemiology studies, particularly in disease prevention, comparative effectiveness research, or therapeutic treatment evaluation.
  • Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, organizational, data management, programming, manuscript and grant writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize complex data and familiarity with statistical software such as SAS, STATA, and/or R.
  • Proactive and flexible demeanor with ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN ASTHMA EPIDEMIOLOGY & TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE

Program for Translational Science and Center for Asthma Research

The Office for Translational Science and the Center for Asthma Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for a post-doctoral position for an investigator with training and experience in pediatric and/or adult epidemiology and/or clinical trials. The individual should have experience in aspects of epidemiology, clinical or observational studies, and methodological and analytic approaches. The ideal candidate will work within a dynamic, extramurally-funded and productive epidemiology and translational clinical research program focused on primary disease prevention in asthma and health innovations within the supportive infrastructure of the Program for Translational Science and the Center for Asthma Research, with a goal to become an independent investigator.

Required qualifications:

Experience, knowledge and a publication record in epidemiology or clinical-translational research is essential.  Successful candidates must have a doctoral degree and a competitive record of publications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background and interest in epidemiology and/or pragmatic clinical trials, particularly in disease prevention, improving care, or implementing health innovations.
  • Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, and writing skills.
  • Experience utilizing administrative and/or electronic health record data or an ability to synthesize and organize complex data.
  • Proactive and flexible demeanor with ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Ability to remain goal-oriented and keep investigative team on track.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop meaningful collaborations.
