POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN ASTHMA EPIDEMIOLOGY & TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE

Program for Translational Science and Center for Asthma Research

The Office for Translational Science and the Center for Asthma Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for a post-doctoral position for an investigator with training and experience in pediatric and/or adult epidemiology and/or clinical trials. The individual should have experience in aspects of epidemiology, clinical or observational studies, and methodological and analytic approaches. The ideal candidate will work within a dynamic, extramurally-funded and productive epidemiology and translational clinical research program focused on primary disease prevention in asthma and health innovations within the supportive infrastructure of the Program for Translational Science and the Center for Asthma Research, with a goal to become an independent investigator.

Required qualifications:

Experience, knowledge and a publication record in epidemiology or clinical-translational research is essential.  Successful candidates must have a doctoral degree and a competitive record of publications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background and interest in epidemiology and/or pragmatic clinical trials, particularly in disease prevention, improving care, or implementing health innovations.
  • Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, and writing skills.
  • Experience utilizing administrative and/or electronic health record data or an ability to synthesize and organize complex data.
  • Proactive and flexible demeanor with ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Ability to remain goal-oriented and keep investigative team on track.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop meaningful collaborations.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN THE DEPARTMENTS OF MEDICINE, BIOSTATISTICS, AND THE CENTER FOR ASTHMA RESEARCH

We would like to invite applications for a Postdoctoral fellowship in the Departments of Medicine, Biostatistics, and the Center for Asthma Research at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The position is a two-year appointment. The successful applicants will have a PhD or expect to gain a PhD and a formal qualification in epidemiology and/or biostatistics or other related discipline, and possess a familiarity with statistical software packages such as R, SAS, STATA, WinBugs and/or MPlus. S/he will have competence in standard medical statistics, including longitudinal modelling, structural equation modelling, propensity score and high dimensional propensity score analysis. S/he will also have experience in publishing in peer-reviewed journals. 
The successful candidate will work on an AHRQ funded project to conduct comparative effectiveness and adverse event research related to the therapeutic approaches in asthma, and to develop and apply statistical methods for evaluating treatment confounding bias in complex longitudinal studies. Experience in study design, the conduct of clinical or translational studies, and manuscript writing skills are essential. In addition, excellent verbal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team are imperative.
