BarnRaisers: Will Work For Food!

What’s A BarnRaiser? BarnRaisers are a small group of very busy people, who started a “Home Improvement Club”. Several years ago 7 couples got together to help each other with projects around the house, painting, landscaping, clean up, etc.   The group met once a month, each couple was scheduled once a year. Over the years the group has helped with landscaping, painting, building entertainment centers and fireplace mantels, re-tiling kitchen and baths, spring cleaning and the list goes on.

But there’s another side to the BarnRaisers that is less often talked about, the service side.  BarnRaisers have helped Widows, Single Moms, Elderly Couples, and other groups. Re-landscaping after a sewer line was repaired, tearing down a rotting patio cover, decorating a room at the Rescue Mission’s Women’s Facility, repairing a swing set, fixing leaky faucets, and raking pine needles for a fire break, to name just a few. Their service is “Hands-on Mission”.

What the group does is help those who physically cannot help themselves. The BarnRaisers provide the labor (not the finances), those being helped provide the supplies and a lunch. As the years have gone by, the groups focus has become more about the service than the “club”. The time has come to expand our mission – You can be a BarnRaiser Too!! Qualifications need: willing hearts, helping hands.
