BitLocker Help

Sometimes a user will receive a "Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption" screen that prevents them from logging into their workstation.

You can access a self-service portal from another computer or mobile phone from the VUMCEmployee WiFi which will allow you to obtain your BitLocker recovery key.

Please Read:

Recovery keys are linked to the individual who has previously logged into the locked device. Therefore, only the previous user of the locked device should attempt to obtain the recovery key using the details below.

  • From another computer or mobile phone on VUMCEmployee WiFi, go to https://bitlocker.app.vumc.org.
  • Log in with your VUMC ID
  • Enter the 32-digit code displayed on the locked device
  • Select "OS Files Modified" as the reason
  • Click "Get Key"
  • You will be provided with a 48-digit code to be entered on the locked device

We apologize for the inconvenience. If you experience any other issues, please contact the Help Desk at 615.343.HELP/3-4357.

What is Bitlocker?

Bitlocker is a necessary security feature that encrypts devices if they are lost or stolen. The current issue is unlikely to reoccur. However, the Bitlocker self-service portal is always available.
