A Dean or Chair may wish to refer a faculty member, physician, or housestaff to the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program (FPWP) of Work/Life Connections-EAP.
There are two types of leadership referrals to the program:
Voluntary: The Dean or Chair can suggest an appointment with the FPWP of Work/Life Connections–EAP as a useful resource for the individual to help resolve personal or professional issues. No information is given to the manager without a signed release from the client. The faculty member or physician should be instructed to call 615-936-1327 for an appointment.
Mandatory: While the majority of clients seen through the FPWP of Work/Life Connections-EAP are voluntary referrals, there are occasions when a mandatory referral is determined to be a business necessity due to safetey concerns or performance-based issues.
The decision to make a mandatory referral should begin with a consultation with the appropriate leader:
- UNIVERSITY FACULTY: Consult with the Provost or designee.
- MEDICAL CENTER FACULTY: Consult with Leadership in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine's Office of Faculty Affairs.
- MEDICAL CENTER HOUSESTAFF: Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education or designee.
If you have more questions about the mandatory referral process, please feel free to call 615-936-1327 and one of our clinicians will be happy to provide detailed instructions.
